Environmental Sustainability at BBVA Stadium

What We’re Doing

BBVA Stadium is committed to reducing our environmental impact. Our building was designed with environmental sustainability in mind and, in December 2012, we received LEED® Silver certification in recognition of our green building efforts. The stadium features that helped us achieve LEED certification include:

  • Diverting 87% of the on-site generated construction waste from landfill
  • Minimizing water use by installing high-efficiency toilets and waterless urinals
  • Minimizing energy consumption by installing energy-efficient equipment
  • Sourcing 98% of wood-based building materials from FSC-certified forests

On an ongoing basis, we strive to save energy and water, recycle, purchase environmentally preferable products, and help raise awareness of environmental issues. Here are just a few of the projects we have implemented to minimize our environmental impact:

  • Created a recycling program for plastic, aluminum, cardboard, paper, food grease, e-waste, and more
  • Implemented water-efficient irrigation practices, such as drip irrigation and nighttime watering
  • Installed bike racks and hosted multiple “Bike to the Game” events
  • Created program to purchase recycled-content paper products
  • Hosted community events for Earth Day, America Recycles Day and Earth Hour
  • Launched an employee “green team” to continuously improve our environmental performance

What You Can Do

We’re doing our best to reduce our environmental impact and hope you will join us in our efforts. Here are a few tips to make your visit more environmentally friendly:

  • Consider walking, biking, taking public transit, or carpooling to avoid traffic, save on gas and parking, and reduce your carbon footprint. Get directions here.
  • Help us increase our recycling rate by placing all waste and recyclables into designated receptacles – if you aren’t sure where to put something, please ask!
  • Make sure water faucets turn off when you’re finished – let us know if you spot any leaks
  • Use only as many disposable items (e.g., paper towels, napkins, utensils) as you need
